BADEN surname or first name?
« on: Tuesday 25 January 05 23:29 GMT (UK) »
Finally found out g grandmother's name today on grandad's birth cert. Elsie Mary Jane Williams. (I'd been told she was Winifred  ::))

Anyway, think I've found her in 1901..

Edward H A G Williams 5  Great Woolstone, Shropshire, England Son  St Mary  Shropshire
Elsie M Jane Williams 1  Shrewsbury Daughter  St Mary  Shropshire
Harold C Baden Williams 8 months  Shrewsbury Son  St Mary  Shropshire
Joseph Ed Williams 30  Forden; Welshpool Head  St Mary  Shropshire
Mary Ellen Williams 26  Manchester Wife  St Mary  Shropshire

The fact this Elsie has a younger brother Harold also adds evidence, as my Elsie's first child was named Harold (my grandad).

My question is, the Baden part, could this be a surname? The mother's maiden name perhaps? Also from free bmd...

Harold Charles B Williams Sep 1900 Atcham
6a 647

and same 1/4
James Baden Williams Atcham 6a 641

I wonder if these two are connected. Can't find Edward on free bmd and where is Great Woolstone? I've had no luck finding the parents on earlier census, or their marriage. Any input/thoughts appreciated! :D

Out of total ignorance of this family I will say Baden is a Christian name and I know that because of the date of birth. Right at that time Colonel Baden-Powell was the idol of Britain as he had commanded the British forces during the siege of Mafeking.

Ohhh i see! Thanks for that Hackstaple. So the name was kind of fashionable for the time, such as naming kids after place name is today, or naming a child after a celebrity.

Doesn't help me further my search much then heehee. :-\ Nevermind.
