This must be so disappointing for you, don't know what to suggest, think you should stick with what you know, that may help give clues.

Think you should get marriage cert when next have funds.  It would give you both father & son occupations, possibly if he is deceased.  Also address, area, at marriage, and age on cert, although age at death was 25, so approx c1890.  You know the 1891 census is unavailable, and cannot find a firm match in 1901 that can be proved.

Marriages Dec 1908
DAVIES  Mary Miriam    Merthyr T.  11a 1264
WILLIAMS  Thomas     Merthyr T.  11a 1264

Try to obtain his service record from Kew or wait for it to come online, this will give you address on enlistment, age and next of kin, hopefully he enlisted before marriage, if his father was deceased it may name mother, or sibling

Possibly the 1911 will have additional family listed with his family of wife?

Hope this helps a little  :-\

Reply from register office. Fair play, they are being very helpful, but I`m still stumped.
Sorry to disappoint you- Watkin Williams married Margaret Jones, Mar qtr 1879.
Dianne Green,Supt. Registrar.

I already have it confirmed from the register office that Thomas who married Mary Miriam was the son of Watkin - a collier. BUT , they didn`t say if he was deceased. ???
Perhaps the marriage of Vida will confirm if this is the right  family, then it`s back to the drawing board, trying to find a marriage.
Oh well  ::) ::) Maybe Watkin wasn`t from Glamorgan at all, Oh I don`t know now :)

Well if you do get the marriage of Vida, you will know if there is a possible connection.  Tried to check how many Watkin were in the 1881 last night...but bit fruitless, as not known if he was even in Glamorgan then.

Think the marriage cert would possibly give you address (area) for him, when there are so little factual clues to work with.  That is why I suggested go with what you know.  Possibly his service record may help, at least you know it is connected.

Just read a thread that access to 1911 may start in 2009 re findmypast.  You have a possible address for wife in Merthyr so hopfully it may also shed light.

Hope you get there, you deserve it!

Best wishes and good luck
