Robert Phillips transportation
« on: Thursday 07 August 08 17:16 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

Hope someone can help me sort out Robert.

I found a ref to a Robert Phillips b. Derbyshire in 1802 being transported in 1838 (age 36) his status was quoted as

  M 3m 3f

Can anyone explain what that means. Does big M mean married????  (I am hoping it does!)

I have a Robert Phillips on my tree of whom I am unable to find on census and his children are living with their grandparents in 1841.  I haven't been able to find a death for him and wondered if he was transported and here lies my answer.
My first convict I've had to chase so any help is much appreciated.
Robert was chr in Alton, Staffs in 1802 but probably born in Denstone (like siblings) His children were born in Mapperley, Derbyshire. He married Alice Bennet in 1823 in Ashbourne and has 3 children that I know of (all boys).
Roberts gparents although not derbyshire folk were living in Sturston, Derbyshire in 1841 with 2 of Roberts children.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Now I have a bigger problem with my Phillips

I have found an Alice Phillips on the 1861 census that could be the wife of Robert

Alice phillips wid 59 no occupation b. West Hallam, Derbyshire
Ann Phillips  dau 24  cotton weaver b. West Hallam, Derbyshire
George R Phillips son 6 b. Hadfield, Derbyshire
Mary Phillips lodger married 36 Cotton winder b. Stalybridge, Lancs
Eliza Phillips dau 4 b. Hadfield, Derbyshire
Fred W Phillips son 5mts b. Hadfield, Derbyshire

Mary Phillips is the wife of Charles William Phillips a son of Robert and Alice (I think) the children Eliza and Fred are theirs (but why weren't they listed as grandkids)

George R Phillips can't be Alices son as she is too old so is he Ann's????

I can only find a chr for a George R Phillips chr 27 May 1855 Glossop to mother Elizabeth ( Elizabeth is another child of Robert and Alice)
(this George Phillips shows on the 1871 census living with Uncle John Phillips(son of Robert and Alice)

I can't find this Alice on any other census. Could someone with a fresh pair of eyes take a look for me.

Any help appreciated

Oh i've got it now.

 The status of M 3m 3f

means he's married with 3 boys and 3 girls. Am I right ?!
If I have all this right then Joseph was born after he was transported so not his.

Familysearch would be no good for finding out more about Roberts transportation but thanks for taking an interest.

I have chr and marriages its just stupid details of the transportation thats bugging me at the moment. Even the census details are falling into place.

Think I've found them (Alice) on the 1851 now so its just how to get more info on the transportation lark now

Thanks for trying

Just a thought Anjo, but have you thought about putting a request on the Australian page look up site.  I also have an ancestor who I think was transported and sks found the grave for me in Melbourne Cemetery.
