Multyfarnham - Edward SMYTH
« on: Friday 08 August 08 18:33 BST (UK) »
Hello there

I'm very new to Irish family history and I am in need of HELP  :)

I have a marriage certificate FEBRUARY 1913 for
EDWARD SMYTH,  Chauffeur, FATHER: John
whose residence at time of marriage is MULTYFARNHAM, WESTMEATH

Is there any kind soul out there who can find any info (address etc.) on him in this area? I know he later lived in Dublin.

Thank you

Hi Bash,I've not got any good leads for you but I do know they had a Franciscan Abbey/Monastery & there used to be a railway station there years ago,I have been to Multyfarnham & it is a very small Village-so could he have been a Chauffeur for the Abbey or Collage -( just a though) Regards NIPY

Thanks for that NIPY

Any little snippet is worth a snoop.

I did look for him on the 1911 census in MULTIFARNHAM (courtesy of the mormon records) but couldn't find him :(

Regards

Bash

Hi Bash, won't it be great when the 1911 census for all of Ireland  become freely available on line-maybe  then you will have a better chance of finding the family, you could start your search between Castlepollared & Mullingar with Multyfarnham in the middle, I don't know if you know this area but both these two towns are not far from Multyfarnham-he could also have been a chauffeur for some well off family from one off these towns.Good luck in your search,I shall keep my eyes peeled & if I find any info I'll let you know - Regards Nipy

No luck on any info with Edward or John but from looking on interment.net,I see there are Smyth's for the Fore,Rathcreevagh area at St Feichin old cemetery. Also going back, there were Smyth in Faughalstow & Rathgarve listed under the Flax Growers, all these places are very near each other, a few miles  from Castlepollard on the way towards Multyfarnham.Regards Nipy
