Hi Frances yes thanks that is my Gt Gt grandfather, but I haven't got further back than that. His mother's name was Elizabeth SHELL.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Shirley,
Do you know if Elizabeth Shell was also born in Monkton Farleigh and an approximate date? The only two I can find in MF are in the 1830's, but there are more in Wiltshire elsewhere.
Regards, Frances

Hi Frances This is as far as I've got. She would have been born about 1780 as Elizabeth Shell and married Thomas Sweetland around 1800.

Thanks

Hi there

Regarding your research into families from the Monkton area I'd be very much interested in any information if they were in any way associated with the local mines.
Be it during the 1800's when worked for Bath stone, or the change over period when the main underground areas were converted during the second world war to house heavy ammunition used in the D-day landings.

I'm attempting to gather historical accounts of past workers etc to include on my site www.explorationstation.co.uk
any help greatly appreciated.

And, good luck with your continuing research!

Hi my ancestors were 2x gamekeepers, one publican of the MF Inn and my Gt grandfather was the only one of the family who left the village to join the British Army. He died in Lambeth in 1886, ironic isn't it?

I'm interested in the way of life then anyway will ahve a look at the website.

Ta!
