Hi lnr

Where does this information and date, come from ?

Also, ... "father re-married after going to War".
Did this re-marriage take place in New Zealand ??

"lnr"   ...  have just noticed that you have added some extra detail to your query on Australian board.    If you add it here also, it will assist "helpers" on this board .

O.K.    ... you have the school record for William .

This record should also show a name for one of William's parents.

>   Which parent's name is shown ?

>   Is there an address stated for that parent ?

(Just trying to ascertain which parent he was living with).

Hi lnr

That's good information.    It tends to confirm that Sidney was William's guardian (rather than his being in the care of his Mother).    Difficult to understand why his name might have (possibly) been changed to "Hoare" ??

"Riverina settlement" - a "google" search doesn't reveal anything of that name in NZ (there are mentions of a Riverina school and Riverina road - in other parts of the country).     The address you have for "a William GARDINER in Australia (1936)" looks promising.

Have you found out where Sidney and Mabel ended up ?

Was Mabel's second christian name, "Elizabeth" ?
There is a marriage on NZ Marriage Index for ...

>  Mabel Elizabeth GARDINER to William SEARLE - 1919
(this might be a re-marriage for William's mother )   ???
If William did go to Australia at age 15, then perhaps he went with his mother (and his mother by then, may have had a different surname).    ???
