Volta Tower, Finedon
« on: Wednesday 26 January 05 13:34 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

My GG Grandfather, Elam COOPER (b 14/07/1843,Finedon),  is listed in the 1881 Census as living in the Volta Tower, Station Road, Finedon. Does anybody know a good source of information about this building?

Many thanks.

Adrian

Hi Adrain

John Bailey of Finedon has written numerous books on Finedon.

I have transcribed most of the Bishop Transcripts for the Village so if I can help further just ask.

Hi Adrian
Have you seen the new book by John Bailey called "Look at Finedon" which has numerous photographs of the Volta Tower.

My Mother is descended from the Finedon Sibley's of the 1700's (family moved to Bedfordshire) and my father had a Cobbler's Shop in the High Street in the 1950's.

Hi Sandy,

I've been in touch with John and he has given me some useful information. I've been meaning to get around to ordering his latest book and, now that you've reminded me, I'll definitely do it.

Thanks.

Regards,

Adrian

Hi Adrian

Heard from Gordon today. Glad to have put you both in touch.

I have an 1861 Census entry for Henry Boddington in London area are you aware or it either of you?

Cheers Sandy

Hi Sandy,

Yes, thanks for putting us in touch. My parents remember quite a bit about Gordon's first cousins so I have, in turn, put them in touch with him so they can swap stories first hand.

My only Boddington connection is via marriage to one of my Cooper GG Uncles so I guess that would be one of Gordon to look at rather than me.

Regards,

Adrian
