William Cairns left Derry in 1823 for Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He and his daughter Elizabeth and son James and his mother nigh 100 years. bought a plot of land on the Chateauguay River in Jamestown what is known as Ormstown, Quebec. I have found links in Quebec. Our family plot is at the Union Cemetery, Ormstown. I have found no contact from Limavaldy where James was born in 1818 and Elizabeth in 1802.

Hello Ron,

Cairns - Griffiths Valuation - Derry 1858-59
William, Main St., Newtownlimavady, Drumachose
James, Foyle Street, Derry, Templemore
Michael, Killennan, Cumber Lower
John, Fawney, Cumber Lower
John, Fawney, Cumber Lower
Michael, Killennan, Cumber Lower
James, Carnaboy, Ballywillin

The items listed below would make it easier to find more details of your ancestor.

1. Denomination.
2. Parish.
3. Townland.

You'll have to rely on Church records as William was born prior to the introduction of Civil Registration in Ireland. This happened in 1864. Marriages of Non Catholic were registered from 1845 onwards. Have a look at the thread headed "Advice on how to find your ancestor's home" www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,316045.0.html
