As I mentioned earlier James' baptism is on the IGI at Sandy, 21 July 1811, parents William and Ann.

Be warned that there were two William and Anns who may have been living in Sandy at that time, one couple marrying in Sandy in 1800, the other in Eaton Socon in 1803.

In 1851 in Sandy there were
William Braybrook head marr 77 Pauper labourer b Wrestlingworth Beds
Ann Braybrook 77 wife b Eaton Beds
James Dixie son in law widower b Everton Beds

In 1841 in Sandy
William Braybrook 65 Ag lab
Ann Braybrook 65
Joseph Dixie 35
Jane Dixie 25
All bar William born in Beds

So this may have been the pair married at Eaton Socon. Jane was baptised at Sandy in 1817

But there was a Joseph, son of Wm and Ann baptised in 1802 in Sandy, who must have been the Sandy couple.

Which couple James belonged to is impossible to tell! At least without reference to the parish register to see if either William had a distinctive occupation.

Disentangling those Sandy Braybrooks is a problem.

However, Matilda (my GGM) was the daughter of James & Elizabeth.

Interestingly the Cambridgeshire archives show a bastardy order on 10 January 1826 for Elizabeth Bass of Alconbury against Samuel Blowers of Alconbury suggesting that her advanced age on marriage (30) could be due to this rather than having been married before. But there is also a marriage of an Elizabeth Bass in Alconbury in 1830

Freereg at http://www.freereg.org.uk/search/index.htm has transcribed  Sandy events up to 1812, but there doesn't seem to be much extra information that could help sort out the two William and Ann couples. Many of them are transcribed as Breybrook

I'd have thought that the Elizabeth Bass who married Robert Dilly in Alconbury was the Elizabeth Bass who was baptised in Alconbury in 1800 and who was the 51 year old widow Elizabeth Dilley living and born in Alconbury in 1851. Elizabeth Braybrook was 48 born Stoneley in 1851 and 58 born Kimbolton in 1861. I think these are two distinct Elizabeth Bass's

This is a message for Moghouse and Petros......

I am a descendant of James BRAYBROOK(S) and Elizabeth BASS through their first child Theresa (b. 1828 Little Staughton, Hunts).

I have quite a bit of info collected on this family (not James and Elizabeth's parents sadly...still searching), so if you would like to share info please let me know and I can PM you both.  I would be keen to learn more about your families, as Theresa (my GGG grandmother) had many descendants who moved to Canada but one who moved to New Zealand - and that's where I come from!

Hope to hear from you soon. Even if it's just to help you in your search for more answers.....

regards,
Janine
