Just a thought or two....(in case you don't find them)

There's a Burnby in Yorkshire, and several places called Burley, Barley, etc.  As they moved around a lot is it possible one of these places was where they married?  Bad handwriting can account for a lot of brick walls.

Or.... I've seen certificates where the date is very ambiguous - some 0s, 8s, and 9s look similar, as do some 5s and 6s - maybe this is the case on one of your certificates.

Or maybe they weren't yet married when they had their first... and lied on the birth certificate ? (Don't know if they had to produce a marriage certificate to register the birth?)

Whatever the case, I hope you find them.

If you know both of their names - have you searched for them (for the whole country) on 1837 online ?

Did the first husband die or did they just part company?  Have you found the second marriage?  If so, are there any clues on that certficate?

Are you stuck on tracing them back or are you just looking for the marriage certificate to try and learn a little more about them?

This is probably a stupid idea.....but if he was an actor ...maybe he had a stage name...and married in his own name...  I told you it was a stupid idea !

All the children were register with the same fathers name, so I doubt it would of been his stage name and the mother also took his surname.

I am hoping not anyway, as if it was his stage name, how would I ever find out what his real name is.
