Where is Pare Pinesseo Kekhan
« on: Monday 18 August 08 21:49 BST (UK) »
It seem that my great grandmother Louisa Williams was born according to a census form at
Pare Pinesseo Kekhan. Does anyone on this site have any idea where this place is, and if the spelling is correct. Apparently she came from Glamorgan and Merthyr Tydfil, Llanelli were place names that were mentioned by my father.

Hoping for some enlightenment on this.

I have just had another look at the address and I think it says Peckam not what the transcriber says Kekhan so if anyone cares to take a look its 1861 census

I haven't been able to access the census to check for myself, but here's a wild guess. If the place is Welsh, it's clearly a mistransciption.

I think Pare may be Parc, Kekhan may be Fechan.. could we be looking at something like Parc Pont Nedd Fechan?  ???

Pont Nedd Fechan (Pontneathvaughan in English) is at the top of the Neath Valley, on the edge of the Brecon Beacons. Could there be a nearby village called Parc Pont Nedd Fechan?

Or then again I could be totally wrong  :D

Gloucester, 1829).

Next census says she's from Camberwell.

It's one of the ancestry mistranscriptions that we all know and love.

Sounds like outer Mongolia though   ;D

What was her name?  The one from the outlandish place in 1861 is Esther not Louisa.  Have we got the right family?  Can't make anything of it - awful writing!  They do all seem to be London based though.  Paradise?? Peckham?

I have looked at this, RG9 / 224 folio 54 /pge 2 , and cannot see anything Welsh about the POB, stand to be corrected,  :-X

Are you sure you have the right person on census?  Looks like an English POB to me, but census writing is  :P

Hi The Newfster...not stalking ...honest  ;D

Hello to those who've given suggestions, I didn't think anyone would answer. I was just going to say ignore it, as I'd been told it was a very bad transcription, I reckon thats the end of that really.

Being that I previously lived very near to Peckham/Camberwell I'm familiar with that area anyway. I became a south Londoner but was born in north London.

I live in Wiltshire now, but people still say to me, "Your not from round here are you?" So you can't lose the sarf London accent easily.

Cheers all
