Shepton Mallet buriel
« on: Tuesday 19 August 08 14:59 BST (UK) »
any ideas how I could find out where my ancestor is buried?

I have his death cert that states he died in 1906 in Darshill, Shepton Mallet.

I am passing Shepton at the weekend and would love to visit his grave but I have no idea where it is.

any help would be great

thanks

Shepton Mallet cemetery is off Waterloo Road. If you go to Google Earth it is at the NW of the town

The cemetery was opened in 1856, and in 1906 covered seven acres.

Try contacting Mendip District Council Customer Services

customerservices[at]mendip.gov.uk

01749 648999

I answered a query for a rootscatter about a relation buried in Street and the council were very helpful and told me where to look in the cemetary and they did not charge. That was last year, so maybe the service is still free.

Thanks bicker,
Mendip District Council have given me the plot numbers that I am after.

Does Anyone have a MAP of the  Shepton Mallet cemetery ( Waterloo Road ) that they could email me? I am off on a hunt tomorrow and its quite a big place.

thanks
