Ginger Beer Works
« on: Wednesday 20 August 08 13:33 BST (UK) »
Hello All

In 1901 my g.grandfather, Samuel Andrews, was living in Mill Street, Bilston and described as a "Confectioner at Ginger Beer Works"

Does anyone know if there was a "Ginger Beer Works" and where was it?

Cheers

Jamys I tried a search on the historical directories website "ginger beer works" didn't get any hits, but trying "ginger beer" produced two makers in Brierley Hill & Leek (I'd selected Staffs, 1900s). Perhaps there'd be more in the 1890s?

Hiya Jamys

I think the company might have been Sherwood Morris it seems to ring a bell for some reason - the company (if this is the right one) produced all sorts of soft drinks not just ginger beer. Maybe someone has access to a trade directory and can confirm it

Thanks mshrmh and Willow.  I'll try the trade directories and searches on the company name - it's just "flesh for the bones" as it were.

Thanks both for your time
Cheers

Jamys,

Yesterday I posted a reply to your request for photos of St. Andrews Church, Bordesley. As it comes a long time after your request, and as I'm new to this forum and unfamiliar with its operation, I thought I'd mention it here in case you haven't yet seen it.

Regards,
John Clayton
