If you just search freebmd without putting in a surname and put in christian names Richard Purchase you will find a Richard Purchase Pippard bn Yeovil RD.  March qtr 1854

There is also a possible marriage Yeovil RD  June qtr 1855 5c 877 for a Richard Purchase and a Emma Pippard

Perhaps this is your Richard bn c 1854 born before his parents married

Franpow is searching for the birth reg for the son of the above - also of the same name - who was born around 1892/93 and is 8yrs old on the 1901 census

Also in Yeovil is a marriage for Edith Purchase to William Haggett June qtr 1853. Are these the William and Edith you have 1871

The marriage between Edith and William P.Haggett were my G.Grandfathers parents.
 
Their son,  (Richard Purchase Haggett born 1872) married Sarah Pugsley.

His son, (my grand dad born 1893/4 also named Richard P.Haggett. no birth cert married Alice Winfield 1917.
