I live in Sussex quite close to Bolney - I can confirm that Slaugham and Twineham are no more than 3miles (in different directions) from Bolney.
I only looked at the post because It 'said' Bolney Hampshire !!

Hello Mumsie

Don't know why I posted my topic as Hampshire........ one of those "senior" moments I suppose !
Interesting to note that Bolney, Slaugham and Twineham are close to each other as it serves to confirm we have the correct names that I am searching for.

Thanks

Viv

Is this the marriage?

Henry Stovel & Lydia Saunders, both otp, by banns, 26 December 1816 in Slaugham

Any particular reason to think they may have married in Hampshire, or should I move this to Sussex?  ;)

Nell

YES please Nell...... a "senior" moment on my part !

Thanks

Viv

Bolney have a flourishing Historical Society who may be able to help you.   When you search census records it is always useful to put in as little information as possible - especially when the name can be mistranscribed - and you then look at the possibles and are often lucky.  If you put Sto* it will bring up all entries starting Sto.    If you get far too many then cut the dates down or search in a specific place.    If you get really hooked then you will need a subscription - only the cost of a Sunday paper each week and much more fun!

In this case, for both 1841 and 1871 census, I only used first names and birth places. 'St' looks very much like 'H' apparently  ;)
