marriage of Moon and Sherrard
« on: Saturday 23 August 08 04:40 BST (UK) »
Hello

I am looking for any record of a marriage between John Moon and Margaret
Sherrard. Do not have a date. Must have been 1840's to 1860's in Derry. Thank you!

Can't see a marriage for the above couple at the moment. Do you mean Londonderry city or county? Sherrard is a very common surname around Limavady. From the surnames I would guess they aren't Catholic- civil registration of marriages (non-Catholic) began 1845 so if it is earlier then you would need to find the church records (if they exist).

Have just found birth for James MOON born 15 July 1867 Glendermot district son of John Moon and Margaret Jane Sherrard.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hello

You are quite right,  this couple were not Catholics.  I have assumed they were married in county Derry. Their son James was born in Ardkill in 1867.  The marriage likely was after 1845.  Not very specific I'm afraid. Thank you for responding.
