Llandarrog Baptisms Completed
« on: Sunday 24 August 08 12:21 BST (UK) »
Once again having problem locating Parish Records of Llandarrog. Looking for a baptism of William David/Davies c.1801.   1851 Census states Llandarrog Carmarthenshire. Can anyone help in looking this up or tell me where I can purchase record. Many thanks Syljun

The parish church ones are on the IGI batch C099311, BUT, the problem is that the IGI up to 1813 in Wales assumes a patronymic naming system, even if it was no longer in use locally. So, what you need to do is search the batch number (Hugh Wallis site is easiest) for the first name only around the correct time and look for the father's surname.

In your case, there is a William John baptised 1/8/1801, son of John David. So he would actually have been William David/Davies, and not William John as the IGI would have us believe.

Found it okay osprey, thanks.
Found a marr. on I.G.I. which may be a marr. for John. William's first son named John and 1st daughter Elizabeth. Marr. John David and Elizabeth Arthur 1/1/1799.
Wondering if someone could look up 1841 Census for Llandarrog. Here's hoping. Should only be in sixties if still alive. Thanks again. Syljun

only one I can see of that name and sort of age in Llanddarog

Stafellfach, Cynnellfawr hamlet, Llanddarog HO107/1384/8 folio 7 pg 7
Elizabeth Davies 70 pauper born in county

Probably an idea to a get copies of the baptisms for clues as to abode and occupation. It's also possible that one or other of the couple died and the other might have remarried...

Thank you osprey, you have been a great help. Am sending to Dyfed F.H.S. for B.M.D's for that period so hoping to gain more info. Once brick wall has been breached its surprising how quickly info. comes to hand. Thanks once again. Syljun
