McGrory Family

Hi ,

 I am posting this in case anyone is researching the McGrory Family . I am a descendant of James McGrory b. 22 Apr 1849 in Armagh , son of Francis McGrory and Catherine Hughes . 

Francis and Catherine had 7 children all born in Armagh . I only know what happened to James , I have nothing on their other children besides their birthdates .

Children of Francis McGrory and Catherine Hughes -

Patrick McGrory -   b. 29 Mar 1847
James McGrory -    b. 22 Apr 1849 married Bridget Collins in Keady
Peter McGrory  -    b. 22 Aug 1853
Michael McGrory -  b. 15 Nov 1855
John McGrory    -   b. 26 Sep 1857
Mary McGrory    -   b. 28 Dec 1859
Edward McGrory -  b. 5 May 1863


I do not know what happen to the siblings of James . If anyone can help or is researching this family , please let me know .

also found 2 possible marriages for michael;

michael mcgrory married mary ann mcparland 4-oct-1879

michael mcgrory married sarah mckenna 22-may-1884

all of the above in keady.

 Thank you for the records of Michael , I will have to search those and see which one fits , but it is at least a start on the family .

I have just started researching my family tree... so a bit slow in putting all the pieces together still  .

I was just wondering whether you ever found out anymore about the children of Francis and Catherine McGrory...

Specifically whether you manged to find out which of the above  Michael's (if either of them) was the son.
Michael McGrory who married Sarah McKenna  would be my gg grandfather,  pretty sure that he was born 1855 and died 1929. He also had a son, Michael(born1893) , one of them did enlist in the British Army before 1917, I think it was the son but not sure.

If you do have any info , I'd love to hear from you.

 I am sorry to say that I do not have any more information on the McGrory siblings. I have hit a brickwall with the siblings.

I would be interested in knowing whether your Michael McGrory is the son of Francis and Catherine.Do you have a marriage certificate for your Michael and Sarah?

My gg grandfather James McGrory married Bridget Collins and they lived in Carrackaduff, Keady, Co Armagh til his death in 1909.

One of their sons, named Michael enlisted in WWI  0n 21 Sep 1915 in the Machine Gun Corps and died 2 Nov 1918 in Belgium.


I will continue to try and find a connection between your family and mine and hopefully we will both come up with something.

Sorry for the delay, I was getting the marriage certificate for Michael Mcgrory and Sarah Mckeena, which I now have...unfortunetly it does not show a connection between our families.

Michael McGrory married Sarah McKenna 22 May 1884 - Michael's father was a Edward Mcgrory.

Although this doesn't show a connection, I won't be surprised if there was a connection - maybe a generation before this, as the family names are very consistent-  Edward, Michael, Patrick, Mary, James, - all are  family namesin common, but then again I suppose these were common names at the time. Also the fact that both families have a history of joining the Army, well the search continues, do let me know if you find out any further information


ps, i'm sure you've seen this but just in case you haven't , I'm sure that this would be your Bridget Collins...

We are related. My great grandfather is James McGrory who married Bridget. They lived in New London Co. CT. He had a son called John Francis McGrory, who is my grandfather.  James and Bridget also had the following children in addition to John: Annie or Anna, James Jr, Thomas, William and Laurnce. My grandfather married Mary Emily (do not remember her last name)  and they lived in North Adams, MA. He had a son called John Francis McGrory, who was my father (passed away three years ago) and a son called Thomas McGrory, who still lives in North Adams, MA.

My mom and dad  moved to Minnesota and had 7 children.

Peter McGrory, the son of Francis & Catherine Hughes, married Kate Hefferon and the couple eventually moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Peter died in 1898, and Kate was remarried to Patrick McGoldrick.  All of these individuals are buried in St. Mary's Cemetery (Lawrenceville neighborhood), Pittsburgh.
