John McDonald James Maskery
« on: Monday 25 August 08 06:28 BST (UK) »
Have been trying to trace history of John McDonald born in County Cavan about 1848 and worked in Perseverance Mine in Hamiltons Otago NZ 1870 to 1884 when he was killed in a mine accident. Was reported that his father was also called John McDonald and that John (DB 1848) came to the colonies with James Maskery. Has anyone any info on this line.

Colonies - Do you mean Australia or New Zealand?

By colonies I concluded that they may have gone to AUSTRALIA and then to NEW ZEALAND.
My great grandfather was in New Zealand from abt 1870 to date of death 1884 at Hamiltons Otago.
The person accompanying him named as James (Maskery?) in the handwritten coroners report may be interpreted as MacKay or Markey. The writing is a little unclear.
Thanyou.

Thankyou for your reply. Do you know of James  Maskerywho emigrated to Nz or possibly Australia from County Cavan Ireland about 1868. He would have been with a John McDonald.
Look forward to your reply
Thankyou

Hi,

I am e-mailing you as you state that you are the editor of the Maskery clan magazine. My maternal grandmother was Hannah Maria Maskery and her brothers and sister were George Joseph Maskery (born 1917 - died 1942), Harold? Halden Maskery (born 1918 - died 1992), Frederick John Maskey (born 1919 - died 1986), Thomas Norman Maskery (born 1922 - died 1987), Fanny Maskery (born 1925 - died 1968).

Their parents were George Joseph Maskery (born 1891) and Fanny Maskery nee Thorpe.
I do have the family tree for this family - going back to Thomas Maskery (born 1780). I do not however have any details of the parish in which any of my ancestors were born/baptised, other than a recent search in which I found that My great grandfather George Joseph Maskery was living in/born in Tean, Staffordshire, the information being on the 1901 census.

I am interested in your magazine. Do I need to subscribe? Is it available on line or does it arrive by post? I would be grateful for more information about this. My e-mail is (*)

With regards,
Gwyneth Harding
