Ngaire,i understand you are looking for any information on John McDonald who came to Hamiltons,otago in new zealand with James Maskery. Well John McDonald is my great grandfatherand i have lots of information on him since his arrival in nz.I have visited the grave site which is close to the where the old town of Hamiltons use to be.I will give you my email so you could contact me rearding further information.

I am your cousin I think. One of Uncle Jack's daughters. Would love any further info on Gt Grandfather such as what ship he arrived on in NZ

Hi,yes i am your cousin and it is great to hear from you.I thought it was about time i found out just where John McDonald did come from,so with a bit of help from you we might.We went to county Cavan two years ago and did get some likely leads which i'll hunt out and let you know.We also tried to find out about Mary Flanigan when we went to county Clair but did'nt have enough information about brothers and sisters etc.However i'll find out from Marise about the likely name of the ship he came out on and let you know.I dont suppose you have any information on him prior to leaving for nz.Also who is James Maskery and how did you find out about him.Anyway see how you go and i'll be in touch when i get the information,also we will be in London in June so we might catch up.

I found out about the Maskery connection as I have a copy of the coroner's report into the death of G/Grandfather. My thoughts are now that they may have travelled from Melbourne to Otago.
