Sullivan Marriage
« on: Thursday 28 August 08 19:20 BST (UK) »
Hello

I know this is a long shot, the marriage I am looking for is James Sullivan born c1841 Cork and Mary born c1846 Cork.

In Wales 1867 when son Cornelius was born.
Thanks Margie.

I'm making an assumption here that James and Mary were Catholic. If so, civil registration of Catholic marriages started in 1864 so for earlier dates you need church records (if they exist). If I'm wrong about their religion, civil registration of other marriages began 1845.

Sullivan is a very common Irish surname which won't help you locate the correct family. However, Cornelius' birth certificate will list his mother's maiden name so you will then have full names for his parents when you search for their marriage.

While the birth certificate will get mother's maiden name it won't help find the family in Ireland. You need to know the parish of not the actual townland to start looking for church records in Ireland.
