Oh I see. I was planning to go to Kew sometime in the near future anyway, so here's another reason to go. I'll order a copy of that marriage certificate for Edward with a reference check on the name of Edward's father that I have already and go from there. Thank you all for all of the sources that you have provided me with, it is very much appreciated and I now have several routes to follow once I have confirmed that this is the man I think it is.

Thanks again,

Matthew

Hi Phil,

Thanks a lot for that, I'm compiling a shortlist of things to look up in my first visit, that's certainly going to be added  :)

Starting out after census records
« Reply #21 on: Monday 08 September 08 03:36 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I've managed to trace back all lines of my family through the census records (except for the Welsh side - too confusing with just Jones, Williams and Davies for surnames).

However, i was hoping that there might be some online resources that are pre-1841 for England that i could access since i'm based in Australia.

If anyone could give me some suggestions - counties in particular are Norfolk and Devon - that would be great!

Also, how do i trace relatives born in India? I have their army records and some info from IGI but can't get back any further. Any tips? I've got back to 1843 born in Kamptee but can't find out his parents. Surname is Goodger.

Any help would be gratefully received!

Thanks!
