Gretna Green Marriage ???

I hope I am on the right site for a marriage that may have taken place in Gretna Green!!

Leslie George Thomas Garrattley married Louisa (or Louie) Nix but I cannot find them anywhere.  I believe this is a second marriage, first child Jane born in 1923.  They only had two children that survived because Louisa must have reached the end of her child bearing years.

I have their death certificates which gives me a rough indication of their ages. Leslie George born 1887 and Louisa born 1885.

It's a last resort before I put them on the back burner for a while.
I hope someone can help please.

Do you know for sure that they married at all?

What do you know of any previous marriages?  I see none for Louisa but a possible one for Leslie in 1914 to a Sarah E. Picton (Dec 1914 Horsham) with one likely son of the marriage in 1915.

Hello Anna

I found that to be the only one and I sent for the certificate hoping it would give me some clue.  I figured it could be possible for him to have been posted to Horsham if he was in the Army and I did find some Army Records for him (that's if it is my LGT Garrattley.

I thought that Sarah Garrattley must have died for him to have married again, but I couldn't find a death for her.

What name is the son you found in 1915 Anna?

I can't be sure that they were married, I can only assume that they got married, I wouldn't like to tell my daughter in law that her Great Grandparents were living in sin!

The reason I didn't post the son's name (found on www.freebmd.org.uk) was in case he was still alive - we are not supposed to post details of potentially still-living people on here.

In any case, having now found what is likely to be his death I can safely post it:

Birth: Dec 1915

Noel S. Garrattley, mother's maiden name Picton, Amersham 3a 1514

Death: Jun 2003

Selwyn Noel Garrattley, dob 16 Oct 1915, Trafford A54A 015/1A 139

Thank you Hannah ~ I did have Noel S Garrattley on file, just in case his father was LGT Garrattley, but I didn't have his death, he lived to quite a grand age.  I take it Trafford being a district of Manchester.

Can you find a death for Sarah Garrattley at all?

Thank you for finding the divorce Anna, so Sarah didn't die, that would also explain why I can't find a marriage around 1923 because he was already married ~ food for thought!

May I ask your connection to Leslie George Garrattley Jeanette, I have been trying to find his marriage to Louie Nix ~ I wonder if they ever did get married now.
