Re Foster and more
« on: Saturday 30 August 08 13:10 BST (UK) »
Thank you Gill for sending me that info on Jane Foster.
I'm unsure of how the BMD ref number  23 54 will help when applying for
the birth certificate. The only references I am familiar with are the
ones used on St Catherines.

I don't know of any other siblings except that she married Henry Harrison Bryan and they had at least 3 children.
John Foster Bryan 1868
Sarah Elizabeth Bryan 1870
Thomas Foster Bryan 1873

I would have added this reply to the thread but don't know how that works.
Can anyone enlighten me please?   ???

Thanx.

Hello again, Kate - you get around!!  ;D

To reply to something on your original thread, you just have to click on 'reply' , a reply box opens for you to type out your reply and then just click on 'send'. Doesn't matter if you get it wrong at first - just go for it!!  ;D

The reference I gave you for that baptism for Female Foster is the GRO reference - sorry if I didn't make that clear.

As for siblings of Jane - you should be able to find them on either the 1841 or 1851 censuses. I don't have a subscription to Ancestry so can't help you there, but there are plenty of Rootschatters who do - and will, I'm sure, come to your aid.

Thanks Jill. Simple when you know how!!
Think maybe I wasn't logged in when I tried last time.
I'm just out of touch with FH. All the sites I used to
use have changed so much except for this one which
I always found brilliant.  It's the number 1 site for me.
Chatters are so helpful.  Thanks again.

Pity that Jane is the youngest child - Penelope looks to be just old enough for her birth to have been before civil reg was introduced in July 1837, so doesn't help us find Jane's birth.

However, on the bright side, it looks as if SisterJane has found not only Jane's family and parents, but also - very possibly - the earlier generation: her grandparents Daniel & Frances living next door. Brill!  ;D

Next time I go to the local RO, I'll try to remember to have a look at the North Cave PRs to see if I can find Jane's baptism etc.

Hi

I don't know if this will help but on the 1851 Census the children were given as being born at Drewton which is about 1 mile from North Cave.

On the IGI her 4 siblings are in Batch No.C106631 being Christened at North Cave. (There is no Church at Drewton) with father of Daniel, Mother Nancy/Ann.

FANNY FOSTER - Christening: 18 MAY 1830 North Cave
DANIEL FOSTER -  Christening: 21 MAR 1832 North Cave
ELIZABETH MEDCALF FOSTER  -  Christening: 29 JUN 1834 North Cave
PENELOPE FOSTER - Christening: 22 DEC 1836 North Cave

On the IGI are 2 Marriages for a Daniel Foster at North Cave:
1.  ELIZABETH ELLEN MEDCALF - Marriage:  25 NOV 1826 at North Cave
2.  NANCY STAVELEY - Marriage: 19 FEB 1830 at North Cave

Strange how Elizabeth's middle name is Metcalf yet Nancy is given as the mother so wondered if he had married twice & his first wife died???

Gill

Pickering - Newland, Cottingham (E.Yorks) poss. Durham
Wiles - Atwick, E. Yorks
Cape - Bridlington, Hull
May - Lincs & E.Yorks
Lamb, Leonard & Ingram - Holderness
Holmes - Knottingley/Gainsborough
Paterson - Southwark, London

Hi Kate,

I finally managed to get myself to the Beverley RO this morning and found your Jane Foster's baptism in North Cave.

These are what I found, starting in 1830:

baptised May 18 1830 Fanny d/o Daniel & Nancy Foster
abode: Drewton  occupation: farmer

baptised Mar 21, born Jan 6 Daniel s/o Daniel & Nancy Foster  abode: North Cave  farmer

baptised Jun 29 1834, born Feb 8 Elizabeth Medcalf d/o Daniel & Nancy Foster   abode: Drewton   farmer

baptised Dec 22 1836, born Jun 5 Penelope d/o Daniel & Ann Foster   abode: Drewton  farmer

baptised Dec 18 1839, born Nov 22 Jane d/o Daniel (?jnr)& Ann Foster   abode: Drewton  farmer.

I'm not 100% sure about the 'jun' on the last entry but pretty sure the first letter was a 'J'.
