Mapping Your Ancestors ?

I've been reading various posts on mapping ancestors and surname distribution maps etc & just tried Platial.com but wasn't that impressed (or was it me)  ::)

Has anyone tried familytreeassistant.com linked to Google Earth ?  Just watched the video tutorial and you can get a free 30 day trial, but wondered if anyone had any comments - I'm sure you guys have  ;)
