Wow, thanks deb - looks as though we've found the connection between the two Ingarfills already.  Sophia's daughter, Mary Ann Mills, married Michael Ingarfill, who worked in a paper mill!  Looks like Mary Ann married her cousin.

Hi Becca

Have been having a look around ...where were the other boys born.

The 1841 doesn't give us any clues either but it does give us more children.

1841 Orpington
William INGARFIELD 66 saywer
Jane 40
William 20
Hannah 20
James 15
Edward 12
Michal (sic) 10
George 7
all born in county

I will look for more

deb :)

added ...I wonder if Hannah above is actually the wife of William (20) as per the 1851 census?
Travellers = Penfold, Orchard, James
Devon = Middleton,  Waterfield, Adams, Clark/e, Gould

Thanks deb
The other boys were all also born in Edenbridge, but there's no sign of them on the IGI.  I was given the names by the descendant of John's I mentioned, and I believe she got the records from ancestry.co.uk, which has just started to transcribe old parish records - it's incomplete but luckily has the records from Edenbridge for that period.
I would guess that Hannah probably is William jr's wife.

No sign yet of any traveller connections, however I feel sure there must be one somewhere, as there is this rumour of them belonging to a circus, which must have come from somewhere.

Hi Becca

I have looked for the boys ...is there a slight chamce that they were born in Cobham Surrey?

There is this Baptism
Richard Penfold s/o Willaim Penfold and Sarah
 25 MAR 1804   Cobham, Surrey

I cannot find him anywhere in Kent.

I think also that Elizabeth Penfold did marry William Everest ...her surname has been mistranscribed through the censuses , but I did find her as Elizabeth EVERETT in 1871 , b Edenbridge 1800.

deb :)

I'm afraid that that Richard isn't from my family.  The boys' baptisms are all definitely there in the Edenbridge parish records, with parents John and Sarah, according to ancestry.com, but they can't have been transcribed to the IGI.

I had seen that marriage record - I think it's likely that this is my John and Sarah, but it's impossible to know for sure, especially as the IGI is so incomplete - there could be another record that we're simply not finding.  I think the only way to know for sure would be to look at the original parish records - being in the UK, that might not be impossible

Hi Becca

I have been on the hunt again  ;D

I think I may have found Henry Penfold b c 1811 ..he has been transcribed as being born in 1791 = 60 years but on the original his age looks like 40 to me.

1851
Lewisham kent
hurst Place
Henry Penfold head mar 40 labourer b Edenbridge
Ann wife 43 b Westerham
Obediah son 16 b Wrotham
Tanday dau 12 b westerham
Cornelius son 9 b  "
Emily dau 7 b Lewisham
Oman son 5 b  "
Betsy dau 3 b  "
Margaret 8 months b  "
The children's names sound like Gypsy names.

1851
Westerham
Towne
John Penfold head mar 47 piper? b Edenbridge
Lucia wife 40 b Surrey
John son 17 b Westerham
Mary Ann 15 b
sarah  11

Hi again

i think Lucia w/o John Penfold has been mistranscribed as well ...I believe she is Louisa ..as her children's baptism are children of John and Louisa ...

Westerham
Town
John Penfold 35 sawyer
Louisa 30
Louisa 9
John 7

I think that the only way to find the circus connection is to follow everyone ...eeekkkkk ...  ;D

There is this baptism ;
RICHARD KENNELLY PENFOLD s/o John and Louisa
01 JAN 1843   Westerham, Kent

then this marriage
JOHN PENFOLD = LOUISA KENLEY
04 OCT 1830   Saint Mary Cray, Kent
 IGI extracted

other IGI bapt;
SARAH PENFOLD d/o John and Louisa
