Hello again,

I'm going to bow out from this thread now.  It's one of those 'difficult' ones..  Can't find a marriage for William Mitchell and Jessie Polson, so must have taken place before 1855?

There are 3 or 4 marriages in Scotland for a John MacKenzie marrying a Jane MacKenzie - however only one of these couples has a Catherine McKenzie - who was born on 28 Sep 1856, Knockbain, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland.

This would tie in with a 24 year old Catherine marrying James Grant Mitchell on 19th March 1881. From the IGI  (www.familysearch.org)  This is a reasonable I believe assumption.

Regards,  Steve   ;O)

I don't know if you have a copy of the marriage entry so shall pm it to you.
~~~~~~~~-----------------------------
If the above is 'your' Catherine the following are possibly siblings
JEMIMA MC KENZIE - International Genealogical Index
Birth: 02 NOV 1858 Knockbain, Ross And Cromarty, Scotland
MAY MC KENZIE - International Genealogical Index
 Birth: 04 JUN 1861 Knockbain, Ross And Cromarty, Scotland
and to add to the confusion there is the birth of a
ALEXANDER MC KENZIE Birth: 10 MAY 1856 Logie-Easter, Ross And Cromarty, Scotland
 to a couple of the same name  :O)
I think you need to go with the facts you can prove.  :O)
Here I am again.
Searched Scotlands People for the birth of a James Grant Mitchell - births between 1855 and 1865.  He was down as aged 22 on his marriage in 1881.
And found him.
Born on 29 June 1858 to William Mitchell (Forest Labourer) and Jessie Mitchell  (maiden name Wilson) in the Parish of Urquhart in the County of Elgin.  Looks as though the Registrar for the marriage misheard Wilson and entered Polson.
~~~~~~~~-----------------------------
Children for the couple are: from the IGI:

WILLIAM MITCHELL Birth: 31 JUL 1856 Urquhart, Moray, Scotland
JAMES GRANT MITCHELL  Birth: 29 JUN 1858 Urquhart, Moray, Scotland
DAVID MITCHELL  Birth: 26 OCT 1860 Urquhart, Moray, Scotland
JESSIE MITCHELL  Birth: 30 JUN 1863 Urquhart, Moray, Scotland
 JOHN MITCHELL  Birth: 15 APR 1867 Speymouth, Moray, Scotland
~~~~~~~~------------------------------
That's all from me - shall post you the certs downloaded.  Regards,   Steve   :O)
Hi,I'm new here and just came across your post. I had a look in my copy of the Morayshire Roll of Honour 1914-18 and I found
MITCHELL, Donald.   NoJ18357, A.B., H.M.S. "Devonshire"; born at Elgin, 23rd Feb., 1895 ; joined at Lossiemouth, 1st July, 1912; served in Home Waters. Son of James Grant (deceased) and Catherine Mitchell, 45 High Street, Elgin.
Hope this is of interest
