Hi.  My great uncle , Septimus Illidge, served with the 9th battalion , lancs fusiliers 1916 , He only seems to have served for 3 mths and was then discharged for what looks like medical reasons.  He then seems tohave joined a Manchester regiment territorial.   On hisrecords there is are 2 "squigles" LARGE , that look like HS or NS, most likely HS, , does anybody have any idea what this means.  Thanks

I would guess "Home Service" ie he did not go abroad.
