Seen your posting today - Interesting re names associated with your Stevensons.  "Caldwell" was a middle name handed down in my Stevensons. Agnes also.
But, My Stevensons came from Northern Ireland, though there was only two generations born there, the first a James Stevenson came from Scotland. I cannot get a connection back to Scotland.  A lot of the children came to Scotland to the West Benhar/Shotts/Clarkston areas and I have followed them down.   One who was born in N.Ireland was an Andrew Caldwell Stevenson who married a Mary Hendry.   If there is no connection that's o.k. just using every straw I can find, Annie

My Margaret Caldwell Stevenson married John Carson - whose parents (William Carson and Helen McCutcheon) came from Newtownards, County Down, arrived in Dalry c.1861. His Elder brother was called Hendry Carson! Just a coincidence!

Do you have any dates for your James Stevenson? My Margaret has an uncle James Stevenson b.c.1826, parents were John Stevenson and Agnes Williamson.

Does any of that ring bells?

Hi Everyone.
I have a William Stevenson born in Cockpen 1881, his father was Alexander Stevenson born 1853 in Tranent.  Seemingly some Stevensons moved from Cockpen to Tranent (following the jobs in the mines ) some stayed in Tranent and others returned to the Lanark area.
Not much for you to go on,  but could be they moved around .

Benn, Ireland and Tranent
Stevenson Tranent
Donaldson Tranent
Davidson Tranent
Gilmour, Armagh Ireland ,Tranent
Muir Fife

Re Caldwell name.  I don't have James Stevenson's Birth or death in N.I. His wife Jane B1806 died 1866, but the family i am trying to merge into mine had a son John, Thomas, William, Nathaniel, Elizabeth.   These children would have been getting married round 1850/60 and I cannot find anything more as yet, so probably not a link.  Thank you it is all worth a try, Annie
