where is Merioneth
« on: Monday 08 September 08 07:55 BST (UK) »
I am not sure I am on the right board - can anyone please tell me where Merioneth is - I see it on the IGI but cannot locate it on the atlas.
A second question - Picton Castle owned by the Phillips family is at the bottom of Wales somewhere - can anyone tell me where it was, it sounds as if it is not there now,

Hi Robin,

Merioneth was formerly a welsh county.

Have a look here, there is also a map :)

Picton Castle is near Haverfordwest, in Pembrokeshire

A good way of locating places is to enter the name in the wikepedia search,
A good way of locating places of genealogical interest is to enter the place name and GENUKI in a search engine. This will give you addresses for records, archives, etc, etc, etc.

Many thanks for the replies, Picton Castle is certainly not gone, it looks wonderful now I know where Merioneth was.
Many thanks
