Hi

The image definitely says Staffs and the place starts Braun - the s is questionable but the ton is legible

If you Google Braunston - it comes up with Rutland, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire but no mention of Staffordshire

I would say that it is probably the same person.   I have a lot of gamekeepers and gardeners in my tree and they did move around quite a bit.  It seems they moved around from estate to estate, probably for a better position on a bigger estate.

I also think the placename is meant to be Branston (or Branstone) near Burton on Trent in Staffs.  I have seen it spelt many different ways on censuses etc.

Hi there, I have just seen your posting and wondered if you had tried looking using other spelling variations.

You probably have I'm sure.  Its just that I have ancestors with the name HULLS and they have been transcribed as HULSE on several occasions so thought maybe your HULSE could have been transcribed as HULLS.

Just a thought. You've probably already found them.

I haven't found anything else about him at the moment. I'd love a wedding certificate for his first marriage/ death of wife, and a birth certif would be heaven!

Unfortunately I can't help you out either.  So far my HULLS are from Melton Mowbray and Leicester.  Although I haven't got that far back with them yet.

I know how frustrating it is when you can't find an ancestor, I have one just like it  :(

I do hope you have a breakthrough soon.

Hi - I have a possible for you   :)

You won't get a birth certificate for anyone before 1837,  the best you can get is a baptism from church records,  so finding that Branston was part of Burton-on-Trent at that time I found the following

from IGI
HENRY WILLIAM HULSE
Christening:  06 MAY 1819   Burton Upon Trent, Stafford
  Father:  THOMAS HULSE  Family
  Mother:  SARAH

This would make him a bit older than he said in later years but I think it is a good possible.  The most likely candidate I could see in 1841 is

1841 Harbourne Staffs
HO107- 980 Bk 8

Henry Hulse 20 police Y
Jane Hulse 20  N

and I found this marriage in Free BMD

Marriages Dec 1840
BRISCOE  Noah    Shiffnal  18 205
BRIT  James     Shiffnal  18 205
DAVIS  Hannah     Shiffnal  18 205
HAYWARD  Samuel     Shrewsbury  18 205
HOLDEN  Jane     Shiffnal  18 205
HULSE  Henry     Shiffnal  18 205

TUDOR  Martha     Shiffnal  18 205
UNDERWOOD  James     Shiffnal  18 205
VICERS  Jane     Shifnal  18 205

By 1851 when Henry is staying in Derby.  Jane is back with her parents with 3 small children

1851 Staffs Sedgley
Ho107- 2030 Fo 116 P 24

John Holden 61
Elizabeth Holden 57
Jane Hulse 31  dau Mar born Roliston Derbys.
Sarah Hulse 5
William H Hulse 3
John Hulse 10 Mo
Benjamin Tomlinson 16
Joseph Guest 17

Then there is this death again Free BMD

 Deaths Jun 1855
Hulse  Jane     Burton  6b 179

It seems to be a possible - what do you think?

I like it a lot!
The fact that the wife died ties in with him being a widower when he married in Scotland. Its a shame he didn't keep the children thou
Thanks so much for everyones help, its really appreciated

Hi I have Hulse's in my family too.  My Great great grandfather was a Henry Hulse No middle name though but they came from Rodington in Shropshire a lot of hulse's did there are other Henry's I think and he was a collier and gardener he moved his family to Haigh Lancashire  and worked in a plantation for quite a while.  Will have a look at my stuff you never know!
