« on: Sunday 14 September 08 11:14 BST (UK) »
This is a very long shot.

Looking for any information on a Andrew Watt/Wait, bapt. 23/2/1778 Dunbar (per QPR Birth Index E.Lothian).
Parents James Watt & Isabella Gray, other possible children John,Alexander & Catherine Wait, these shown as Wit. on Andrew's childrens birth certs.

Andrew married Dunse to Isabell Binnie in 1804, (parents George & Helen).
1841 census Coldingham 65 outside county.
1851    "                "         74  Dunbar,Haddington.
No death or burial found .
Working on Scottish naming pattern, James,George Francis?
Helen,Isobel,Margaret?.

The Watt may be an error in transcribing for Wait, have details of family to present.

In hopes.

I have two Watt brothers marrying two Turnbull sisters in Dunbar .(Andrew 1844 and James Bailee Watt 1841 ) parents Thomas Watt and Ann Bailee  with Thomases father being Andrew Watt born 20-9=1788 in athelstaneford not your 1778 unfortunately. TYhey could all be the same lot. the Watt brothers are all shown on the 1881 census one lot living in athelstaneford and the other dirleton
the Andrew 1788 parents were James Watt (Prestonkirk)and Helen Clark. There is a large family pedigree chart on Family search  (AFN;1PNW-QB4) which gives loads of info
I am a turnbull
Hope this helps

Hi Beckey & Alan,

Very interested to read this thread as I'm decended from the James Watt and Janet Brownhill mentioned in the Ancestral File referred to through their son John who married Euphan Sandie and through their daughter Marion who married Richard Sanderson.

I'd be happy exchange info. on the Watt/Wait/Waitt line and associated families such as Sandie, Alexander, Sanderson and Caldcleugh etc. I'm not sure if there is a link with my Watt line and the Andrew Watt bapt 1788 that Becky mentioned but will take a look.

The Family Search Ancestral File that Alan refers to is a useful starter and makes interesting reading but is incomplete and inaccurate in places so treat with some caution.

I too have some Turnbull ancestry, but from Roxburgh.

Regards

Hello evelyne,

Have found the family in 1851/61, but not Alison in 1841, nor her birth on "scotlandspeople".

I don't have a Alison on my wife's tree, Andrew Wait/Watt & Isabel Binnie,
Andrew was a Hynd at various places mainly Mandelson House and lived at Duns, the nearest was 1824 at Cranshaws & 1819 at Swinton. They lived Coldingham 1841/51 and the only one there was a Ann b.1828.

Hve you any more info?

Hello Beckey,

I have Alison Waite on 1841 Census, Age 17, in Hutton.

And, Alison Watt, parents Andrew Watt and Isabel Binnie, 22 Sept 1822 in Longformacus, on ScotlandsPeople.  I've run out of credits so I don't have a copy.

On the 1841 census for Coldingham, Andrew and Isabel Waite also have a son John, age 16, born Berwickshire.

What else can I tell you?

Hi eveleyne,

Found 1841 at Hutton under Waite.

Longformacus 1822.
Alison daughter of Andrew Watt and Isabel Binnie was born at Felcleaugh 9th August and Baptised 22nd Sept.

Francis Wait b. 26/6/1819 Swinton & Simprin father Hind at Swinton Hill.

John Whitlaw Wait b. 10/7/1824 Cranshaws, Hind at Cranshaws. ( he is the one 1841 Coldingham), Cranshaws about a 1 nw of Felcleaugh.

No details of fathers employment, so back to square one.

The next one would be the death cert. of Alison Dickson nee Watt/Wait, but it all points to part of the family of Andrew.

Hello Beckey,

Thank you for the information.

The Alison Dickson who died 31 October 1891 was the widow of James Dickson. (Fisherman Coldingham Shore)  Her parents were William Colven and Janet Pearson.

On Saturday I will see if I can find our Alison on the later censuses to get an idea when she died (on Ancestry.com).

I will see if I can find the other Waites as well.

In 1871 the family was in Berwick, UK.

On the 1881 census Alison is a widow in Coldingham, with three children and three grandchildren (children of Isabella).
