Smeeth or Brabourne marraige
« on: Monday 15 September 08 22:07 BST (UK) »
Hi there, I'm looking for a bit of help in finding a marraige record in order to confirm the grooms fathers details.  The info I have is:-

Thomas Oliver and Alice Elizabeth Munn married in 1904.  They had banns read in October in St Mary the Virgin Brabourne which is Alices parish.  Thomas is from smeeth as far as i can tell, but I am unable to get to any records office for the foreseeable future to check further.

So I thought I'd try you lovely people, and thank you in advance for any help or advice you can give.

Thank you both, this all fits with what I have,  but somewhere along the line I aws told that Thomas's parents were a William and Sarah, which is why I was hoping that someone had access to the marraige details to confirm what I beleive and that is its Thomas and Mary as you've both found above.

I think I will have to order the certificate,  was trying to avoid this as I have so many loose ends like this I would need like you all, to remortgage to get all the answers lol.

Thanks again for your quick responses.

The only William and Sarah I can see on census were born and lived in High Halden, not far away I know, but no son Thomas that I could see.

Hope someone can see the parish register for you, otherwise I'm afraid the only other way is to buy the cert

Kind regards, Barbara  :)

Thank You Barbara.  I am more an more convinced that it is Thomas and Mary,  but it's going to have to be confirmed one way or the other.  Whats made it more likely is, I've dug out all my old notes and file and gone over everything again and come across morebanns for a Thomas Oliver and a Mary Hawkes in oct/nov 1857 again in Brabourne.

This now makes me wonder if Thomas was originally from Brabourne and not Smeeth as it states in the banns?

It is a little frustrating that I have all these banns records and no marraiges...lol  the day I was at the archives was obviously not long enough!!

see http://www.dixons.clara.co.uk/Certificates/marriages.htm#COL7

In the parish records when it states 'from the parish' it only means he was living there, not necessarily born there, and as Thomas was living in Smeeth in 1891 that possibly explains it.  The census says born Brabourne.  The cert looks the best bet if no-one has access to the parish marriage record.
