~~~~~~~~----------
Census 1851 (page ref : Piece 1547, Folio 381 Page 6)
Tower Hamlets
Middlesex
13 Thomas St
Head Thomas Walker marr. 55  shoemaker,born Sussex Storrington
Wife Isabella Walker marr. 45 born Northumberland
~~~~~~~~------------
(Storrington lay within the Sussex Registration District of Thakeham)

~~~~~~~~---------
Phil, it looks like census enumerator recorded their surname as Walker, and transcriber transcribed it correctly ( well at least the Ancestry transcriber ! )
Are you looking for a Walker person or a Wallser person ?
Wife Isabella Walker marr. 45 born Northumberland
I'm confused - in post 1 Phil said her name was Arabella in the 1851.
Hello again Phil,
On this thread http://www.rootschat.com/links/04bi/ you say that
I searched Thomas Wallser in 1851 census and not for the first time, Wallser has been transcribed under Walker............there is a Thomas Wallser born Ticehurst living with wife Arabella........
later in the same thread you make the correction
Sorry he was born in Storrington according to the census
Clearly this is the family which Michael has found, although the wife's name is Isabella not Arabella.
What makes you say that this family's name is really Wallser when it is written as Walker in the census?
It's not looking good is it - I have a Mary Ann Simmonds (nee Wallser) who was born in Ticehurst, Sussex - because transcribers would almost never see Wallser as Wallser, I linked this Thomas with Mary Ann...........perhaps it IS a Walker
thank you ALL for you help - these travellers are giving me a heck of a headache!!!!
best wishes
Phil
Morning Phil  :)
What was the trail which led you back to this Thomas and Isabella?
Are they entered as Wallser in later censuses?
Where do travellers come into it - this particular Thomas was a shoemaker   ???
....which probably proves it doesn't say WALLSER :0(
I have posted this query in a lot of Counties as there seem to be connections all over the place.
The Wallser clan, certainly in the 19th century were Hawkers - they travelled, from what I can see from Yorkshire to Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire, Bedfordshire, Kent, Middlesex, Devon, and Jersey.
The last definate information is the marriage between Thomas Wallser and Sarah Gruby in 1338 - the cert says Thomas is the father of Thomas.....
I have found a Mary Ann Wallser who was born in Ticehurst, Sussex and I hoped to find Wallsers incorrectly mistranscribed as Walker......
I was adamant the Thomas "Walker" said Wallser but I was more hopeful than certain..........
