Hi Amber,
The marriage cert 1892 states Alice's father as John Jefferies and Thomas' father as George Williams.

I have seen the 1881 census (LDS) and thought it could be them (even though the spelling of the surname is different) JEFFERIES on cert and JEFFRIES on census. Even on my nan's birth cert the spelling is JEFFERIES.

You say you found John Jeffries in 1891 census. According to the marriage cert in 1892 he was deceased. By any chance were they living in Penarth on the 1891 census?

It could be them!

Hi Welshmum,

That's interesting about the father being John (deceased), I will go and have another search and will  be back with the details.

Hi Welshmum,

Looking at my notes I had followed  Alice and Emma (Rowan) on the 1891, I like you found John and Sarah on the 1881 with those children..

Spelling of names often vary according to how the person filling out the forms thought it was spelt.
I can't find a John Williams or Sarah on the 1891 census, so it's a good bet that this is the correct family, as we know that John was deceased by the time Alice married in 1892.

The John Jeffries I am looking at in the 1881 was an Ag Lab, what details do you have on both fathers regarding occupations on the marriage certificate...the more details you can give helps to match up with previous census years.
Tom says he was born in Bristol, did you notice that John Jeffries was  born in Somerset

Had a long post and my computer crashed  >:(   >:(    >:(

anyway lets try again!

Hi Ambers,
Sorry for being a pain but you said you can't find John Williams or Sarah on the 1891 census, I assume you mean you checked for John JEFFERIES or Sarah.

Also you followed Alice and Emma on the 1891 census, where were they living? Was it Penarth?

Both fathers are down as Labourers and both were deceased at the time of marriage!

If I haven't said it already thank you so much for all the help you are giving me!  :-*

Sorry that was a typo ::),  I did mean John and Sarah Jeffries.

In a rush as I have got visitors, hopefully I will have time to search and  post 1891 census details for Alice and Emma later, but I remember Alice was a Servant in 1891, poss at Canton Cardiff.

Have you checked BMD's for John  and Sarah Jeffries deaths?

Lets hope Tom's father George didn't die before 1891 as it will make more difficult to find Tom on the census with limited information of where he was born.

No problem. If you could post the info later I would be grateful. I haven't check BMD but I will do.
It is more than likely that he did die before 1891 but you never know!
Thanks again.

Hi Laurina,
Thank you for the info.
What would be the address/location for both?
