thanks for advice  re scanning. It is a very small picture. no more than 3 inches high. It is the only photo to exist of the wedding of these people also,hence the request to improve it.  I will still have a go at rescanning just in case more can be done though. . all the best to all as ever Genie

I have checked and the picture is at 300 dpi and still pixelates
Must be scanned from a very small original

That is why I recommended scanning at a higher resolution

Good grief Hippy, no need to apologise!! 

I only stuck my nose in (were it probably wasn't wanted  ) as I wanted to stress that 300ppi is best because of the problems with compressing higher scanned pics to enable them to be posted on Rootschat.

If we had unlimited file size, I would say the higher the ppi the better!
