hindmarch/ binchester colliery..completed

my gg grandfather was killed in binchester colliery in 1888, at the time he lived by byers green or spennymoor area. he is not buried  at spennymoor or tudhoe. is there a binchester cemetery? or has anyone have any info where the nearest cemetery would be? any information would be most greatful.

I would suggest you get his death certificate. He is mentioned on the Durham Mining Museum website and most of those killed at the colliery were buried at Rock Road Cemetery, Spennymoor, but did he have a gravestone?

have you checked the burial records to see if he is buried at the cemeteries you mention.

thanks,  i  do have his death certificate, i have checked on the burials for spennymoor and tudhoe his name is not on the list, some of my other relatives are buried there. i do not know if he had a headstone. thankyou for your time , much appreciated.

He's probably buried at St Peter's Churchyard at Byers Green if he lived at Binchester.  If he lived at Spennymoor he'll be at St Paul's churchyard or Holy Innocents churchyard.  These records are at County Hall, Durham.

York Hill & Rock Road cemeteries didn't open until after 1888.

thanks jay for the information, much appreciated, most probably at st. peters byers green, or st. pauls spennymoor. i know they removed the headstones many years ago at spennymoor. thanks.

There is a small graveyard in Binchester closed a good few years now I think. Its always very pretty in spring with the flowers that have been planted there
