Lee Southern. Lymm, St. Mary the Virgin

Hi

Was wondering if anyone had access to baptism records from St Mary's in Lymm. I am looking for the birth / baptism of Lee Southern C 1812. I presume he would be registered at St Mary's.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Lee doesn't seem to be there so it likely the baptism took place elsewhere.

At least you can eliminate it....

I am not familiar with the Lymm area. Has anyone got any pointers that may help me out here.
All I really know about his early years is that some time between his birth and 1841 he had moved to Manchester. ( not a lot to go on I know )

Again any help would be much appreciated.

OK, could be difficult.  Do you have his marriage certificate - this would hopefully give you his father's name and occupation which would make him easier to trace?

If you go to www.genuki.org.uk you can see information about Lymm.  Nearby parishes would be Warrington, Warburton etc.  If you check out maps using google earth or http://www.streetmap.co.uk/ you should be able to get an idea of the layout of the area.  Warrington is border country, was in Lancashire now in Cheshire - Lancashire OPC have some of the records for Warrington St Elphin online but not for the date you are looking at.

The marriage certifcate (if you don't already have it) might be the best option.....

He married Eliza wilson at Manchester cathedral in 1836 so before civil registration. I could send for the film from my local FHC, Would this give his father's name ? . Lee called one of his sons Moses. I found a moses Southern Babtised 1817 in Warrington. also married in Manchester cathedral. I got myself all excited thinking this must be his brother. until I remembered that Moses was named after Moses Wilson, his Grandfather on his other side. ( this could be a huge coincidence just to throw me off the cent)

That's unfortunate, most inconsiderate of them not to have waited until after civil registration!  You are unlikely to get the father's name from the parish record entry unless he happens to be one of the witnesses, and the witnesses can vary from being church officials to family members, so nothing is guaranteed.  If you know the date (is it on the IGI?) you may be able to order a copy of the parish register entry.

It would be worth a post on the Lancashire board to ask how and where to order it from.

I wouldn't rule out Warrington for the baptism either, pity they haven't transcribed the dates you are looking for yet.

I may have had a small breakthrough, I have found one of Lees brothers, he is called John Leigh Southern. So it's possible I should be looking for a Leigh, not Lee.

Also I think it possible that the family were from the Wigan or Leigh ares.

At least I've made some progress.

Am also looking for Lee Southern born Lymm, maried Eliza.  I have also extensively searched for every permutation of his name on the Cheshire project website.
  I note he was living with his niece  (as his dom. serv) in  1861 who was from Wigan so maybe there is the connection we need.

ps I've also been unable to find him on 1851 census. Have you?
