Hi all,

Thanks for all the messages but I have done no more work on the Tainsh family this week as I've not been well.
Anne, I would love to have the names of the Tainsh'e in Logie if you would be so kind.
Kilsyth? I am so sorry that I missed your email on Tuesday I would love to have had your help.
Monica, Thanks for the info on the 1901 census.
Many kind regards
Teresa.

Hi Teresa,

Sorry to hear you haven't been well - I hope you're on the mend now.

As I said, these may or may not be related in any way, but maybe sometime down the line you'll be able to add them if and when you find out who they are.

1.
In loving memory of JAMES T. SHARP who died 17th September 1966 aged 74 years
And his wife CATHERINE G. TAINSH who died 7th April 1968 aged 76 years
Also their son *JAMES T. SHARP, Merchant Navy lost at sea 10th April 1942 aged 21 years

2.
In loving memory of ISOBELLA BREINGAN died 31st January 1939 aged 84 years
And her husband JOHN TAINSH died 2nd August 1912 aged 64 years
Their son TOM TAINSH died 12th October 1915 aged 26 years

3.
In memory of WILLIAM TAINSH who died at Glasgow 20th September 1880 aged 27 years
Also my son JOHN who died at Glasgow on the 20th of February 1898 aged 18 years
Also his wife MARGARET THOMSON who died 9th January 1909 aged 58 years
Their daughter MARGARET TAINSH who died 20th January 1926 aged 50 years

The following is the details from the CWGC database for James T. Sharpe (I thought his middle name may have been T = Tainsh, after his mother's maiden name, but obviously not as he was given exactly the same name as his father!)

*Name: SHARP, JAMES TODD
Initials: J T
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Sailor
Regiment/Service: Merchant Navy
Unit Text: S.S. Empire Prairie (Greenock)
Age: 21
Date of Death: 10/04/1942
Additional information: Son of James Todd Sharp and Catherine Gilroy Sharp, of Menstrie, Clackmannanshire.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 44.
Memorial: TOWER HILL MEMORIAL

Alva and Logie are only about 3 miles apart with the village of Menstrie slap bang in the middle!

Good info on his parents from CWGC though - it's not that often you get parent's middle names and if these turn out to be 'yours', you'll have lots of info to start with.

Hi Anne and Theresa

I have 4 Isabella Breingans born between 1853 and 1857, all in Alloa. I think the one referred to above would be Isabella b. abt 1853/4, parents John Breingan and Margaret Donnel. She lived at Holly Tree, Menstrie, Logie in 1861 and Menstrie village in 1871. She was a Wool Mill worker and was not listed in the 1881 census as Isabella Breingan but was as Isabella Tainsh.
Maybe you have worked that out by now but I give it for clarification anyway
