Swanny/Lennie/Fotheringhame
« on: Tuesday 23 September 08 20:28 BST (UK) »
I have a Johanna Swanny or Lennie b. 07 October 1865 Stronsay, Orkney, to Robina Lennie and John Swanny

On January 16 1868 Robina married Peter Fotheringhame (Stronsay) and had at least two children, Robina and Mary Fotheringhame (d.o.b.  28 March 1868 and 04 January 1870 respectively.)

Any further information on any of the above mentioned would be gratefully received.

George

Can't find Johanna under Lennie/Swanny or Fotheringhame on the 1881

Do you know if and who she married?  She was only 15 in 1881 so should be in Orkney - unless she died??

1861 for Stronsay

Robert Lennie 47  Seaman - Merchant & Service b Stronsay
Betsy Lennie 52 b Cross, Orkney
Robina Lennie 14  b Stronsay
George Lennie 11  b Stronsay
Stronsay; ED: 6; Page:  3; Line: 4

As Robina married Peter as Lennie - I assume that Johanna was illegitimate

Thanks for your responses.

Re: 1881 Census:That would be the census where she worked with the Croy Family?

She was illegitimate

In 1891 Johanna appears in the Leith Census married to my g-grandfather Edward Masson Shepherd and is the mother of two boys, George (my grandfather) and Peter.

Re: 1861 Census: Would I be correct in assuming that George Lennie would be Robina's brother and Robert Betsy's brother?

Re: 1871 to 1901 Censuses: That all ties in.

What a wealth of information, many thanks!  :D
