1901 census lookup AITKEN & SCOTT
« on: Wednesday 24 September 08 09:05 BST (UK) »
Hello

Could someone with access to the 1901 Scottish census please have a look for:
William Aitken, born about 1895, son of William Mitchell AITKEN, house painter, & Harriet AITKEN formerly HOLLETT

and

Christina SCOTT, born about 1890, daughter of George SCOTT, railway platelayer, & Christina SCOTT formerly Gourdie.

I don't know where they were from (that's what I'd like to find out), although they married in 1922 in Alloa, Clackmannanshire.

Why is it I always find a promising new lead just after cancelling my Ancestry subscription?

Any help appreciated.
Many thanks
Richard.

Thanks Gadget - that's very helpful.  Wasn't expecting Newfoundland to crop up!

Many thanks

Hello, I've been looking for information on William Aitken & Harriet Hollet myself.  Harriet is my great-grandmother but William Aitken is not my great grandfather.  She remarried in 1904 to Edward Ramsay after William died and she had my grandmother also named Harriet .  I can tell you some information on her kids, parents, siblings and grandparents if you're interested.  I do not have a family tree on the computer yet,  everything is on long sheets of paper all over my basement!

Hi Ann-Marie

Thanks for the message - I'm afraid following a bit more research (following up the helpful lookups from Gadget) I found that these Aitkens and Scotts were a red herring, and aren't actually connected to my family.  Shame, because I thought for a while I might have broken down a significant brick wall in my research!

I hope your research goes well; I have a little office that sounds very similar to your basement!
Regards
Richard.
