I've had a good search for my William Stratton - still don't know when he arrived in Canada but I've found the family in Scotland in 1901 Census. I've also found a younger brother b.1907 in Thurso, Caithness.

They must have departed from Scotland sometime after his birth - Mar 1907.

The family should be as follows.

John Mason Stratton b.1868, Thurso East, Caithness, Scotland - occ. Baker
Jane Joan Stratton b.1866 nee Sinclair, Thurso, Caithness, Scotland
Jane Joan Stratton b.1896 Thurso, Caithness, Scotland
Margaret Wright Stratton, b.1899 Thurso, Caithness, Scotland
William Stratton b.1901 Govan, Lanarkshire, Scotland
John Mason Stratton b.1907 Thurso, Caithness, Scotland

It was this William that married Dorothy Margaret Lamb in the late 1930's

I think this must be the Stratton family:

Departure:     27 September 1907
Port of departure:    Glasgow
Destination port:    Montreal
Ship:    SICILIAN

Mrs STRATTON, age 42
Joey STRATTON, age 10
Maggie STRATTON, age 6
Willie STRATTON, age 4
John STRATTON, age 5/12

All listed as Scottish and destination is Vancouver, BC.  I can send you the image if you like - and it definitely says Joey for what must be little Jane.  A nickname perhaps?

And this must be them living on 6th Ave East in Vancouver in 1911, father was still working as a baker:

Okay, enough genealogy.  I have to switch to my other love - Middlesbrough Football Club - and hope they win today!
Malandain/Mallandain/Mallandaine/Malllindine - anywhere and everywhere
Corson/Causon - Gloucestershire
Nicholas - Pembrokeshire
Clark - Dumfriesshire & Kirkcudbrightshire

Thanks that's great, so John senior must have travelled alone and left his wife to look after the kids!! Is he anywhere on another ship?

Thanks for the 1911 - that's solved a mystery Hazel the daughter I've been unable to find was born in Canada.

Sorry, I neglected to check for the father!  But here he is, possibly travelling with his brothers???

Date of departure:    2 March 1907
Port of departure:    Glasgow
Destination port:    Halifax, NS & Portland, Maine
Ship:    MONGOLIAN

John M STRATTON, age 38, baker
William W. STRATTON, age 28, painter
James W. STRATTON, age 42, tailor

Destination was Calgary, Alberta.

Here are some more dates to round out the Strattons in Vancouver, taken from the BC Vital Events Index:
John Mason (father) died in West Vancouver on 22 June 1988
Jean Joan (mother?) died in North Vancouver on 6 Aug 1949
John Mason (son) died in Victoria on 7 July 1962
Margaret Wright died in Burnaby on 8 Nov 1986
Jean Joan (daughter?) married Thomas C. Patterson on 1 Oct 1919 in Vancouver
Malandain/Mallandain/Mallandaine/Malllindine - anywhere and everywhere
Corson/Causon - Gloucestershire
Nicholas - Pembrokeshire
Clark - Dumfriesshire & Kirkcudbrightshire

You're spot on they are brothers.  ;D  Seems they had the right idea travelling together and leaving mum alone to suffer the four kids!

The other dates are excellent but I suspect John Mason (father) d. 1988 is probably not mine as he was born in 1868 - doubt if he'd have lived to 120

Just noticed he left for Canada 16 days before his son was born - that's a bit much!  ::) He's lucky she bothered to follow him!  ;)

Sorry, my mistake.  John Mason Stratton died in 1957, aged 88yrs!

I wouldn't want to make a transatlantic journey with three kids and a baby today let alone 100 yrs ago!  Brave woman.
