Forgot to say Geoff that the farm was actually in Rye Street near the Duke of York Inn, at one time it had seventy acres but in 1894 when the house, Willow Cottage, was sold, (They have the sale poster in Worcester R.O.) only some seven had been retained. I wonder, seeing as you live not far away, if you know if the cottage is still there?
I live in Warwickshire but intend to have a look around the area next year.

You will find Elizabeth indexed as COLLERISON in 1871 in Dorset.  She claims to still be married  ::)
It seems that all of the Sanitorium staff have been classed as Invalid!

A modern, largre-scale OS map has 3 farms at Rye Street - Rye Farm, Home Farm, Rectory Farm. (I'm not sure these are relevant)

The 1873 Ownership of Land Index has only one GRUBB entry - Susan had 7 acres at Powick.

Looking at 1841, the sequence of households ("Enumerator's Walk") was-
Kenning? Lane
Millers Court
Lower Farm
Lower Farm
Moreton Court
Birtstreets
Rectory House*
Rye St
GRUBB
Rye St
Rye St
Rye St
School House
Rye St
Rye St
Rye St
Comb Green
etc

*Birtsmorton Rectory appears to have been in Birts Street http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/WOR/Birtsmorton/index.html

You'll see some of the places on this map http://tinyurl.com/434osq

Again in 1851, the Rectory was just two households away.
Don't cry because its over. Smile because it happened.

Superb stuff Geoff, I will follow that Dorset lead up and also the clues regarding the farm.
Old wives tales relate that people did not move about much in those days but I have never found it true and Elizabeth certainly disproved that theory, she actually died in Guildford district after trolling up the country and back again!
Thank you again Geoff, your interest and answers are very much appreciated.

Hi Al

A nice sunny morning and I went out for a drive ... as I approached the Duke of York I thought, "Hey, I could drive along Rye Street," so I did.

You'll be pleased that there is a house called The Willows just 100 yards on from what appears to have been a school.

I think it was this house http://tinyurl.com/3sb3g8

Anyway, it's still there :)

Geoff, that is superb and a great gesture on your part, over and above the call of duty, so many thanks for that and all your help, very much appreciated.

I had actually scrolled along the houses on the same site but obviously did not know which one was which from the air! I don't suppose Oliver had the swimming pool there in his day!!

I shall certainly be popping down for a look, possibly in the Spring and there will certainly be a large one waiting for you in the Duke of York on that day

Hi Al

It seems that we belong to the same Collinson family. I am back to the mid 1700s, but just bringing all the lines down as far as I can. At the moment I am looking at William and Hannah Sturgess and their issue.

Hi Lesley,
Have to be honest and admit that I have done almost nothing on the Collinson side apart from the marriage of John and Elizabeth and what happened after.
Any information you can add would be most welcome to several of us on the Grubb side of which we can offer you plenty!
I went to look at the old house in Rye Street last year, some old building left although the main house had gone.
