Reference the cap badge question - the Scroll containing the name of the Loyal North Lancs extends far higher than the one shown in the first photograph and the wings of it are just about on a level with the top of the crown whereas on the Green Howards badge the Scroll is less than the width of the bar above it containing it's number of the line regiment i.e. XIX. Hence my stating it is in fact the latter one rather than the former.
I have tried without success to send two pictures showing these facts. However.S's.L.

Well hubby says scan is not clear enough, as he is trying to scan from a scan, i have emailed the lady who has the orginal to see if I can borrow it for a short time.

I have also emailed another contact, he has the Walter connection, I have the Arthur connection, be interesting to find out, driving me mad now

Hi all,

I know this its an old post but, photo is not Walter Bollands,

     14 Sep 1915  Age: 16      Middlesbrough Enlisted

    3/5th Battalions 6TH Battalion Alexandra,Princess of Wales's Own Yorkshire Regiment was a Depot/training units Formed in Northallerton and Scarborough, April and March 1915,


The photo is of his uncle, Frederick James Bollands, age about 38 -40, with his son Norman age 4-5
 

Fred Bolland's Service Record exists, from which we can gather;-
He was born in 1877 in All Saints, Yorkshire (Middlesbrough?).
He served in the 2nd/4th Yorkshire Regiment, - Service No 4399, joining on 13 July 1915.
He transferred to the 16th Battalion Yorks and Lancs Regt, (a Transport Workers battalion) in July 1916. Service No 26199. He was attested at Colsterdale Camp.
He was demobbed on 27 March 1919 at Clacton-on-Sea.
His home address was 29 Hopkins Street, Middlesbrough.
