The first (top) cap badge could be for the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

This is going to be a real puzzle, the first picture is the one we have from the deceased great aunt, she remained a spinster all her life, also on the picture is a small child, which makes me think he was a married man, but obvioulsy not to her  ::)

I will have a look on ancestry to see if there are any families with the name Bollands in Lancashire, ours all originated from Leicester/Rutland and came up north to Middlesbrough to work in the steel works

thanks again everyone for your time

Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards) or LNL  with the blurring both pretty similar outline....You dont have a Walter Bolland from up in North East of England   do you??

Hmmmmm the plot thickens, my ancestor, James Bollands born Leicester, came to Middlesbrough and had eight children, Arthur was youngest, he is my great grandad and he had a brother George, who had a son called Walter!!!

Theres a Walter Bollands Yorkshire Regiment Medal Index card...Mmm? They recruited heavily from Middlesborough Teeside region...Its an uncommon surname so it MIGHT be him?
Lets wait for a better scan....Cant see any Bollands with LNL MICs :)

Walter served as 3570 With Yorkshire Regiment so was probably a Territorial he also fought with the Highland Light Infantry so could have been wounded before rejoining a different Regiment.

The top one could be the Yorks, they had a similar scroll to the LNLR and with a thin vertical bit.

Ancestry have published all the papers to Bollands that survived WW2 bombing. So if you cannot find him you will have a problem. There is a medal card to a Walter Bollands who served in the Yorks, as well as the Highland Light Infantry - http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?Edoc_Id=1508781&queryType=1&resultcount=20

Again this should on Ancestry, or due shortly.

The low Yorks number might mean a pre-war Territorial
