1911 Census District Electoral Divisions
« on: Wednesday 01 October 08 16:43 BST (UK) »
Hi all
does anyone know how to get the district electoral divisions for Co. Wexford. I am going to send off to the National Archives for a copy of a 1911 census but it helps them to know the division number. I think they are listed in the Handran’s Townlands in Poor Law Unions so does anyone have access to this ?
I am looking for the townland of Mounthoward in the parish of Monamolin, Co.Wexford. It has a PLU as Gorey but I don't know what PLU stands for !! I will post this in the Wexford section as well
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

P.L.U. = Poor Law Union.
Some 1911 D.E.D.s are in LDS catalogue- have you checked there?

found this on the central statistics web-site (http://www.cso.ie) in a report of a recent  census - it may be of use as I dont think many DEDs have altered over time ..

it appears that the number in front may be the DED reference

District : Gorey rural area

042 Ballycanew
049 Courtown
050 Ford
051 Gorey Rural
052 Gorey Urban
060 Monamolin
061 Monaseed

as far as I can see from my notes , the file number/code for

Monaseed was 39 in 1901 and 1911
Gorey Rural 49 in 1901
Gorey Town 50 in 1901 .. so not quite the same as Shane's - I suppose sometimesa DED grew and had to be divided in two???

(not sure if this code is the same thing as DED ref, but I think it is)

link to the LDS catalogue mentioned by aghadowey : http://www.rootschat.com/links/04fw/

If you visit the Reading room of the National Archives you can look up the DED number in the Townland Index for 1901 and the Supplement for 1911, or the street indexes for Belfast, Cork, Dublin, Kingstown (Dun Laoghaire) and Limerick
