27 High Street, St Paul. Pub name please?
« on: Friday 03 October 08 20:27 BST (UK) »
Hi all.

My 3x Ggrandfather was InnKeeper at 27 High Street, St Paul, Bedford on the 1851 census & I was wondering what the name of the pub would have been then & if still standing, now.

Any help would be gratefully received!

Thank you in advance.

Have you got a name for your grandfather?

There are quite a few pubs on the 1841 census but it doesnt show the street numbers..he may have been there in 1841 as well.

Hi Woody

He wasn't there in 1841, he had a shop in St.Pancras.

He was John Jenks aged 57 in 1851, born Potterspury, Northampton (spelt potters perry for the 1851 census) I don't have a record for him in 1861.

Thank you.

Hi there

Have a look at http://www.historicaldirectories.org

The 1854 Post Office directory has him listed....

It was actually Number 55 High Street..because he is still there in the 1861 Census as a boarder.
