Interpretation od parish record Newlands 1758
« on: Sunday 05 October 08 08:35 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with the attached Newlands parish record. It reads:

David Son of Donald McDonald near the ------ born Novr 14th 1758 and Baptized the 27th of said month by Mr Alexr Robertson.

I am unable to understand the word I have replaced with dashes.

It looks like 'Whine' but I couldn't find any reference to a place of that name. I think it must be 'Whim'. Go to the link, and press the top star in the north-east corner, it says Whim, settlement.

Brilliant spot heedrapper.
Do you know whether there are any old detailed maps of the area?

I know Jim is particularly interested in an area / place called Newhall

Hi Dave,
Try this link, it's not the best map in the world, but you may see what you want.

Bill,
you've been so much help.

I only got involved through a random meet on Ancestry.
I found what I thought might be a rellie of Jims through SP.
Suggested to Jim he tried here (RC) to clarify the place name.

I reckon you've come up trumps.

Dave.

You're welcome. I'm glad to give something back. So many clever people have spent a lot of time helping me on this site, when I get stuck.
