Help Please - McCurry
« on: Monday 06 October 08 12:10 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone,

Not a beginner to genealogy but a beginner to searching in Ireland and am wondering if anyone can help me with where I should look first.

The family I am looking for normally go under the name McCurry/McCorry. Although the daughter was married under Curry.

Joseph McCurry born apx 1854, according to the 1881 census in Derry, Ireland. Wife was Mary Ann born apx 1853, also Derry. They had two daughters born in Derry: Margaret born apx 1876 & Mary Ann born apx 1878.

In 1881 they were living in Jarrow, South Shields, Durham and went on to have further children there.

Looking at the information I believe they must have went to England between 1878 and 1881.

I don't have much more information other than Joseph was a Chemical Labourer when he was in England.

I appreciate any help, hints or advice on how I would go about tracing this family.

Thanks in Advance,
Holly & Susan

Did a bit of searching for marriage of Joseph McCurry, etc. without any certain results. The maiden name of Mary Ann might be needed to 1) find the marriage in Ireland and 2) find the births of any children here. Maiden name should appear on birth certificates of any of the children born in England.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Aghadowey,

Thanks for such a quick reply. Thank you for looking, and I think that's what i'll have to do. As soon as I have the money i'll send for one of the certificates.

Thanks,
Susan & Holly

If yu get the mother's maiden name let us know so we can see about finding the family here in Co. Londonderry.
