I'm in awe, Monica!

I've noticed that Janet appears not to know her dob, as it varies in each census:

1841 - age  28 -> dob abt 1813
1851 -  age 35 -> dob abt 1816
1861 - age 49 -> dob abt 1812
1871 - age 60 -> dob abt 1811
1881 - age 72 -> dob 1809

You will find that people's ages vary census by census (or on marriage/death certs). Worthwhile always searching with +/- age range.

Mmm, yes.
John also seems to have his doubts:

1841 age 38 - dob 1803
1851 age 37 (!) - dob 1814
1861 age 49 - dob 1812

Thank you soooo much for your help.

Hello -

Did you get anywhere with MonicaLesl's suggestion that your Janet was the daughter of John Risk and Margaret Lapslie?

John Risk and Margaret Lapslie are my 5x great grandparents.  Based on my research, they were married in 1796 in St. Ninians.  They had a son John Risk born in 1797.  This is the son that I am descended from.  I was not aware that they had any other children until reading this post - hadn't had a chance to look into it.  I have a decent amount of information about John Risk and his wife Margaret Gentles and some of their children.

Let me know if you would like me to share any of my info!

Hi Meredith

These are some of the children showing on IGI at www.familysearch.org for John and Margaret. These records, apart from Janet's, are all member submitted but you could check on Scotlands People whether they show there:

1. JEAN RISK Christening: 26 APR 1799 Saint Ninians, Stirling
2. MARY RISK Christening: 01 SEP 1801 Saint Ninians, Stirling
3. JAMES RISK Christening: 19 NOV 1804 Saint Ninians, Stirling
4. MARGARET RISK Christening: 16 NOV 1806 Saint Ninians, Stirling
5. JANET RISK  Birth: 26 OCT 1808/ Christening: 26 JUL 1808 Saint Ninians, Stirling

Thanks Monica!  SP shows...

2 Jan 1797 John Risk
26 Apr 1799 Jean Risk
1 Sept 1801 Mary Risk
19 Nov 1804 James Risk
16 Nov 1806 Margaret Risk
26 Oct 1808 Janet Risk

All children of John and Margaret in St. Ninians, Stirling.

My John Risk died in 1866 so I was able to find his parents listed as John Risk and Margaret "Lapsley" on the death certificate.  So this definitely confirms his five siblings.
